personal medical circumstances are usually prioritised.
Priority is given to people on the basis of medical needs. These range from P1 to P4 with priority offered to those with a P1 score.
P1 Score would generally account for people who are terminally ill. This would be where alterations would facilitate their discharge from the hospital and allow people to be cared for at home.
An Occupational Therapist report is required to assess your mobility needs through your local authority.
Alternatively, you can engage privately with an Occupational Therapist.
If you decide to choose the private option: there will be a refund of €200.00. A point worth noting is that this may not cover the report of the Occupational Therapist.
An Engineers report is also required. You can’t do this privately, as local authorities supply there own engineers who will call to your home and assess your stairs.
It is important to note that should you install a stairlift before the engineer’s inspection, the application will become null & void.
A point of note, you cant fit a stairlift before receiving written approval for your grant. If you do, it will cause your application to be void. You must wait until you receive written communication of your grant before installing a new stairlift in your home.
